Distance Learning Support and Enrichment

Orinda Parks and Rec understands the predicament many parents are in with school districts deciding to start the school year with 100% distance learning. Though we certainly cannot replace the instruction teachers provide to your child(ren), we are committed to providing them with the support and guidance needed to navigate this innovative time of distance learning.

Knowing schools will eventually shift to hybrid learning, with the hope of being back in the classroom full-time before the end of the school year, we are dedicated to providing Distance Learning Support and Enrichment in 3-week sessions. As was the case with our summer camps, Parks and Rec will commit to providing programming that meets or exceeds the latest county and CDC health and safety guidelines and protocol.

The first session will begin August 17, and second session will begin September 8, 2020.

At this point in time we’re excited to announce that we will continue our collaboration with Skyhawks Sports Academy beginning Monday, August 17, 2020. Skyhawks Orinda School & Sports Club will offer interactive childcare and distance learning support to kids grades K-5th. Children will be divided into stable groups of 12-kids based on grade and school after registration.

Skyhawks Staff will provide technological help, keep children on task, and monitor completion of work. They will work with parents and teachers on work requirements each day. In addition to receiving distance learning support, children will spend the day with their Skyhawks Director working on school assignments, physical education, sports development, and social skills.  Parents can drop their kids off before work and pick them up afterwards knowing their schoolwork has been completed, they have received plenty of exercise, and played with their friends.

Although Session I is limited to 36 students, Session II, and beyond, will provide at least 72 available spots. In addition, separate afternoon-only enrichment programs will be offered, beginning in Session II. More information about this will be coming within the next few weeks.
