Sam’s Castle Tour and tea/lunch

The castle, built in 1908, boasts a long colorful history. Come and take a guided room-by-room historical tour 1.5 hour event includes light refreshments and time to revel in the whimsy of this museum-like seaside treasure.  With its square towers and walls made of rectangular concrete blocks resembling ancient stonework, this architectural oddity southwest of San Francisco looks like something out of a Shakespeare play.  This bluff-top castle overlooking the ocean actually has a uniquely California pedigree. In the aftermath of the 1906, this castle was constructed so that it could stand up to both fire and earthquake. The result was this fortress-like concrete compound in the Pacifica neighborhood of Sharp Park.  The Castle does have stairs and wheelchairs and walkers do not fit through some of the doorways. After the tour a hosted lunch is included at nearby restaurant.  Activity level 3; Fee: $85

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see the highlights of the Cantor's permanent collection as a docent leads you through a selection of works spanning varied cultures and time periods.  The center is renowned for having one of the world’s largest collections of works from famed French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Among the museum’s permanent collection are artifacts from the Leland Stanford family, photographs from Dorothea Lange and Muybridge, and paintings from European masters.  The museum, founded when the university opened in 1891, was created to make collections available to students and the public.  Lunch will be on your own at the Cantor Café at the museum which serves sandwiches, soups, salads, daily specials, and fresh desserts.
